One of the most important goals that Odyssey had when they sat down to work on new braking designs was to make the whole system easier to install (and remove) without sacrificing performance. They also wanted to be sure that every component would be very affordable. The Springfield lever is easy to install and remove without having to wrestle grips on and off. An ordinary hinged clamp can be bulky and expensive so a new clamping design made specifically for die-casting was used. This approach keeps the lever reliable and affordable. The lever handle is the same comfortable shape as the proven Monolever Medium blade.

The G.L.A.N.D. MKV builds on this hub guard's long-running history of protecting the spokes and hub while using the strength of the wheel lacing for structural support. The G.L.A.N.D. is made from proprietary plastic to keep the weight low and to spread impacts evenly while grinding - with as little resistance as possible. Most of the Sunday team has been riding guard sprockets for a long time, so it was just a matter of time before we did our own. The Knox sprocket is made of 7075 aluminum and comes with a full guard on 1 side of the sprocket. Even more important is the fact that it’s designed to fit larger chains like half-link chains. It’s made super strong and will help you protect your chain from being hit when slipping off a rail or messing up on a crankslide.

The product designers at Sunday worked closely with Jake to nail down a grip that is perfect for him. Jake's grip comes in at 160mm and features a gradually increasing rib width. This grip can be run either way, depending on which side you prefer. The grip also features a tapered core for comfort.

The Slim by Four is a BMX-specific brake pad with a symmetrical shape designed for both forwards and backwards braking. For the Bluebird chain, Odyssey took the proven and reliable KMC 510-HX chain and added a permanently attached, factory installed half-link to one end. When the chain is trimmed to size you can easily decide whether or not to use the half-link. Original factory assembled pin joints are radically stronger than workshop assembled ones, so this is a huge benefit.

They also wanted to be sure that every component would be very affordable. The Springfield brake drops the two ordinary (and confusing) brake springs and replaces them with one central spring that applies the same force to each arm, requiring no additional adjustment. This makes assembly incredibly easy–just bolt it on and go. The brake arms are designed to maximize stiffness and save weight without adding excessive cost. By die-casting the arms and using shared tooling to make each side, the Springfield meets all of the original design goals, resulting in a very powerful and affordable brake.
